If anything, this is exactly what a sequel should be. Yes, Dead Space 2 is different, it feels different and plays differently, but that does not make it a bad game. This weird, hardly explainable feeling kept interfering with my overall enjoyment however, in the end, I accepted this as a fun sequel. Sadly, throughout most of my playthrough, I felt like I was playing a sequel made by a different team who understood what made the first one so great but couldn’t quite nail the same vibe again. At times the game reminded me of BioShock, but that’s a good thing because it was something different. Running in circles around a repetitive hotel complex is not as creepy as exploring an alien-infested ship in the middle of space. Sure, there are still creepy and scary moments, but overall, the game focuses more on constant fighting than horror. However, as a big action game fan I have to say this shift in direction felt off. I don’t know if it was the survivalist difficulty or simply the developers cranking up the sheer number of enemies per room, but every fight was intense and full of action. Every room you enter, expect to fight for your life. There’s almost no room to breathe, intense sequences and onslaughts of enemies constantly bombard you. It’s more action-packed, and I really mean more. ‣ Thoughts: In many aspects, Dead Space 2 is better than 1. ‣ 8/10 – Ask me to make you whole again one more time I dare you!
